Pink Recycling California ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Pink Recycling App (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use our App.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of personal information to provide and improve our recycling and waste collection services:
- Personal Information: Your name and email address, provided during account registration or when requesting services.
- Phone Number: Your contact phone number, used to communicate with you regarding service scheduling, updates, and support.
- Location Data: With your permission, we collect your device's GPS location to provide location-based services, including identifying nearby recycling pickup points and optimizing collection routes.
- Photos and Camera: With your permission, we access your device's camera to allow you to take or upload photos related to recycling pickups or service requests. Photos may be sent to an external artificial intelligence service (OpenAI) to automatically identify recyclable materials. Images are processed for this purpose only and are not used to train AI models.
- Push Notification Token: When you opt in to push notifications, we collect a device push token generated by Expo Push Notifications and Firebase (Google) to deliver transactional notifications such as pickup confirmations, service updates, and reminders. This token is stored securely on our servers and is not shared with advertising networks.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide, operate, and maintain our recycling and waste collection services.
- To communicate with you, including sending service confirmations, updates, and customer support responses.
- To determine your location for scheduling pickups and providing location-based services.
- To process and manage photos you submit related to service requests.
- To improve and personalize your experience with the App.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. Information Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:
- Service Providers: We may share information with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the App, conducting our business, or serving you, as long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. These providers include, but are not limited to, those listed below.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court or government agency).
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your personal information may be transferred as part of the transaction.
3a. Third-Party Services We Use
The following third-party services may receive certain user data as part of delivering the App's functionality:
- Firebase / Google: Used for push notification delivery infrastructure. Your device push token is transmitted to Firebase services to enable notifications. Privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
- Expo (Expo Push Notifications): Used to generate and manage device push tokens across iOS and Android. Expo acts as an intermediary to route notifications through Apple APNs and Google FCM. Privacy policy: expo.dev/privacy.
- Microsoft Azure Blob Storage: Used to securely store photos you upload through the App (e.g., photos of items to be recycled). Images are stored in private Azure containers and are not publicly accessible. Privacy policy: privacy.microsoft.com.
- OpenAI: Used to process photos of materials via an AI model to automatically identify recyclable items. Images are sent to OpenAI's API for inference only and are not used to train OpenAI's models. Privacy policy: openai.com/policies/privacy-policy.
4. Data Storage and Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. When your data is no longer needed, we will securely delete or anonymize it.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion: You may request that we delete your account and all associated personal information. To do so, you can use the in-app account deletion flow or submit a request via our Account Deletion page. Alternatively, email us at info@pinkrecyclingca.com with the subject line "Account Deletion Request." We will process your request and confirm deletion within 30 days. Some data may be retained for a limited period as required by law (e.g., transaction records).
- Opt-Out: You may opt out of receiving promotional communications from us at any time.

7. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how it is used.
- Request deletion of your personal information.
- Opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell personal information).

8. Children's Privacy
Our App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
9. Permissions
The App may request the following device permissions:
- Location: To provide location-based recycling pickup services. You can disable this permission in your device settings at any time.
- Camera / Photos: To allow you to take or upload photos for service requests. Photos may be processed by an external AI service (OpenAI) to identify recyclable materials. You can disable this permission in your device settings at any time.
- Push Notifications: To send you transactional service notifications such as pickup confirmations and reminders. We collect a device push token generated via Expo Push Notifications and Firebase when you grant this permission. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings (iOS: Settings > Notifications > Pink Recycling; Android: Settings > Apps > Pink Recycling > Notifications). Revoking this permission does not affect your ability to use the App.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
